Working with and for Visual Artists: Hybrid and Online Models
Wednesday, June 9. 6:30pm – 8:00pm CST/MDT
With Steven Teeuwsen (Lowland Art Projects, Edmonton) and Paul Constable (Artist in Canada: Director, Saskatoon)
RSVP on Eventbrite
The art world as we know it continues to change, adapt and pivot. New business models are emerging and these will be explored in the CARFAC Saskatchewan / CARFAC Alberta webinar Working for and with Visual Artists: hybrid and online models featuring Paul Constable (visual artist and director of Artists in Canada, Saskatoon) and Steven Teeuwsen (curator and director of Lowlands Project Space, Edmonton).
As an independent artist and director of Artists in Canada, Paul Constable will touch on the shared relationship between gallery representation and your online presence, and how they work together to form your business model. Paul will discuss the importance of treating your art as a business and how this will change how you are perceived and treated by customers and other businesses. Steven Teeuwsen started Lowland Project Space in one of Edmonton’s older communities when he discovered that the house next door to their residence was also for rent. Steven will be speaking about how Lowlands Project Space operates a hybrid not-for-profit / business model, and how that relates to his curatorial goals.
About the presenters:
Paul Constable graduated from ACAD in 1976 majoring in Visual Communications. After graduating, he moved to Saskatoon and went on to enjoy a stimulating 30 year advertising and design career. In 2010 he left advertising to become the full time Director of Artists in Canada and to concentrate on his painting, curation and jurying of select art shows. He is a member of CARFAC SK and Saskatchewan Craft Council and is a past board member of both organizations.
Steven Teeuwsen creates unique spaces for artists to connect with audiences. This work has ranged from Notebook Magazine, Nextfest Emerging Arts Festival, to Lowlands Project Space.
