PRAIRIE WEBINAR

  • Online, Registration via Zoom (map)

As part of the Prairie Webinar Series, CARFAC Alberta, CARFAC Saskatchewan and CARFAC Manitoba are pleased to present:

BUILDING ARTISTIC COMMUNITY

with Emily Chu & Sherron Burns

The Prairie Webinar Series is proud to prioritize the expertise of artists working in Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba, promoting discussion with our provincial neighbours on various topics while sharing investment in prairie perspectives. The formula is simple: look forward to two 25-minute presentations from two artists speaking to their practice and their experience with a given discussion topic, followed by a 30-minute Q&A period.

EMILY CHU is a Chinese illustrator and visual artist based on Treaty 6 (Edmonton). Emily's practice includes commercial illustration, murals, storytelling, sketching, and community-arts initiatives.

Emily is the founder and lead organizer of Edmonton Chinatown's newest LNY Market: Togather Chinatown Arts Festival, and storytelling map project: Chinatown Stories Map. She is also co-organizer of the arts fundraiser project: Chinatown Greetings

SHERRON BURNS is a mixed‑media artist and puppeteer based in North Battleford, SK. She creates original puppet shows for small audiences in unusual spaces, including tabletop puppetry, stories from a suitcase, shadow play, crankie theatre, and interactive sculptures. Ancient mythologies and imagined histories are brought to life with discarded objects, papier‑mâché, wood, felt/fabric and thrifted treasures. Living in a small city strengthens her commitment to collaboration and community‑building, leading to ongoing creative explorations with artists across Canada. Sherron is co‑founder of ARC Creative Studios, a collective of fifteen artists with shared studio, gallery and workshop spaces in North Battleford.
